RiverMills Center is excited to present its first “Conference on Aging” that will feature break-out sessions on a variety of topics that impact older adults and their caregivers. Housing, home care/benefits, technology, Medicare, safe banking, estate planning, public and home safety, and creativity are the topics to be covered during this daylong conference. The day will include an afternoon keynote address about the importance of positivity by motivational speaker Carrie Stack. Registration is ongoing and will continue until the conference is full. Conference flyers are available at reception and online. The conference is free and includes a light breakfast and lunch. SCHEDULE:
8-9 a.m.- Registration and a light breakfast
9 a.m.- Welcome Speaker, Roseann Martoccia, Executive Director of Access Care Partners
9: 45- 11 a.m.- Breakout Sessions
“Safe Banking”- This session, led by Erin Bradley-Key Bank Branch Manager, Westfield, will cover the ins and outs of
safe banking and insights on recognizing and preventing common scams, safeguarding personal information, and proactive
steps you can take to protect your financial well-being.
“Are You Prepared?”- This session, led by Attorney Hyman Darling of Bacon Wilson P.C., will cover all the information you need
to know about wills, trusts, and estate planning.
“Technology for Aging In Place”- This session will be led by Jona Ruiz, RiverMills’ very own Program Technician. In this session
you'll learn how home assistants, smart appliances, and wearables can save you time and money, help you manage health
conditions, and even give you greater peace of mind.
“Using Creativity to Improve Your Quality of Life”- This session, led by Henry Quinlan, owner and publisher of Omni Publishing,
will dive into techniques to exercise your creativity and to master the major blocks to creativity so that you gain full benefits to
improving your quality of life.
11: 15 a.m.- 12:30 pm -Breakout Sessions
Housing-Jacqueline Luna, Home Lending Specialist at Way Finders, will talk about the Home Modification Loan Program (HMLP)
that helps residents live more independently at home.
Ruth Torres, Home Care Supervisor at Access Care Partners (formerly WestMass ElderCare), will discuss the role of her Resident
Service Coordinators (RSC’s) who coordinate activities and provide services to residentsof the Congregate buildings.
Outreach/Benefits- Tony Pouliot, Outreach Coordinator at RiverMills Senior Center, will explain some of the public benefit programs,
services and application assistance available to low-income seniors, including SNAP benefits (food stamps), Fuel Assistance, the
Senior Companion Program, the Senior Farm Share Program and more.
Rosa Ramos, Community Options Counselor/Hospital Liaison at Access Care Partners, will be doing an informative presentation on the
many free programs and services available at Access Care Partners for seniors of all income levels and circumstances.
“Medicare 101”- This session, led by both Carla Figueroa- Licensed Medicare Plan Specialist with HNE, and Alicia Germain- Hampden
County Regional SHINE Director, will cover all you need to know about the basics of Medicare plans and how they work as well as
what SHINE is and what it does for our older adult community.
Safety- Deputy/Lt. Gregory Moss, of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, will talk about his department’s TRIAD programs,
including daily telephone check-ins, Life Files, house numbering, Sand for Seniors, Senior Home Safety Assessment, Medical
Equipment Loan Program, etc. He will be joined by Captain Katie Collins-Kalbaugh of the Chicopee Fire Department and Sergeant
Matthew Costa of the Chicopee Police Department.
12:30- 1:00 p.m.- Lunch
1:00 p.m.- Keynote Speaker- Carrie Stack, M.Ed., is a Certified Life Coach, author and motivational
speaker with over 25 years of experience providing people with skills and tools to make positive
changes in their lives. Founder of the Say Yes Institute (SYI), a company focused on building emotional
intelligence skills through training and coaching, Carrie has shared her “people skills” strategies with
tens of thousands of people across the country who are looking to build more positive and powerful
relationships, both at home and at work.
