PROMONTORY PRESENTS
RAQ BABY
Raq Baby lives between two worlds. The Chicago-born, Atlanta-based rapper blends the melancholic, gritty sound of Chicago drill with the adventurous and melodic sensibilities of new-age Atlanta plugg. With certified street hits, such as the ethereal tale of just barely getting by on “Day By Day”, (21M+ Streams) and the twisted conflict of love and lust on “My Bitch”(18M+ Streams), Raq baby has been lighting up TikTok and YouTube for the past couple ofyears, racking up 221 Million Streams to date. “Soldier Love”, (20M Steams) thesample-driven lyrical assault asserted his spot as a rapper to watch with its witty lines and vividimagery, while popular projects like 2024’s Abstruse and his breakthrough Spill Season, served as detailed glimpses into the psyche of a young artist finding his voice while dealing with past traumas. His newest EP More Spill (out on 3/5 via Alamo Records), sees Raq Baby weaving tales of his ascent amid the struggle, basking in the good fortune of his hard work.
Tracks like the highly anticipated “Crashed On Camera” went instantly viral on TikTok, even before being officially released. Every song is true to form, living his raps with complete authenticity. A studio workhorse and self-proclaimed perfectionist, Raq Baby continues to tweak and mature his sound with experience and age, resulting in a project that celebrates his rise, and puts him in the class of the next great street poets.
Born and raised in Chicago, Raq Baby grew up with an eclectic taste in music. His grandma played him classic R&B such as Earth Wind & Fire, Charlie Wilson, and Prince, while he spent his adolescence listening to prime Chicago drill artists like Chief Keef, as well as Lil Wayne. But in his teen years, while adjusting to his new surroundings in Atlanta, he would try making music on his own to keep himself out of trouble – first catching people's attention with a flurry of tracks dropped across YouTube and SoundCloud, like the menacing “Drill Baby” (8.5M+ Streams), released under his early moniker 952 Raq. Songs like the reflective day-in-the-life track “Automatic”, (3M+ Streams) and its follow-up “Automatic Part Two” (4.5M+ Streams) featuring Hunxho, instantly connected with fans due to Raq Baby’s colorful sample choices and honest, up-front lyricism.
Projects like 2023’s Maniac Baby served as a worthy debut, with Raq Baby using the project to confess his sins and ailments, resulting in a poignant introduction to the artist. Subsequent projects Bloody Holiday and El Peligro proved he could keep up his output without sacrificing quality. But in 2024, the already buzzing Raq Baby had a banner year, anchored by the hit-filled, eclectic album Abstruse. Acting as a diaristic confession, it provides listeners with the most intimate access into the mind of Raq baby’s life yet. But moreso, it was proof he had been working on his craft. The album features two of his biggest hits to date, “Day By Day” and “My Bitch”, two tracks that effectively put him on the map outside of his regional scenes. Finishing the year strong with Spill Season, which peaked at No. 15 on Apple Music’s All Genres albums chart and No. 8 on the Rap/Hip-Hop chart, Raq baby ended the year with his most commercially successful project so far, making him an artist to watch coming into the new year.
Now, in 2025, Raq Baby keeps his foot on the petal with More Spill, a collection of songs the fans have been begging for. Featuring highly requested snippets formed into full-length songs(“Crashed on Camera”, “Check Fox 5”, “Belt Boy”), More Spill acts as a project of growth and maturation, as Raq baby comes of age amidst the spotlight. The EP features Raq Baby’s most intimate and intrusive thoughts yet, revealing an authentic wordsmith who lives his raps.
Inspired by his rush of success, Raq Baby looks to continue his rise in 2025, cementing hisname as a transcendent rapper who’s one of the best prospects coming out of Chicago and Atlanta.
