Colvin Concerts: Javier Red Quintet

Javier is an innovative Jazz pianist, bandleader, and entrepreneur. Born and raised in Mexico City, he moved to Chicago in 2015. Although he had (and still has) key musical mentors, he is mainly self-taught. His relationship with music emerged from listening to diverse genres: Old Mexican popular music (mostly from his grandparents), 80s pop, Latin American/Spanish protest songs, Classical music (with a special love for Stravinsky), and Jazz. This broad range of influences shapes his work today. Recently, Steve Coleman's M-Base innovative approach to rhythm and improvisation has deeply resonated with him.

He recorded several albums in Mexico and, in 2019, released his first album with his Chicago band, Imagery Converter, on the historic Delmark Records Label. It was selected as the Best Debut Album in the USA by the NPR Jazz Critics Polls in 2019. In 2023, he released Life & Umbrella with his quartet, an album capturing the emotions and daily life of a child with autism. The album received very positive reviews from Chicago Reader (US), Jazziz, Radio Hearer (Germany), Radio France (France), and La Jornada (Mexico), among others.

We have food and a selection of beverages (sodas, beer, and wine) for sale onsite at Colvin House! Guests can order from a limited menu each week.

Please note that we do not allow outside food or drinks at Colvin Concerts.

Parking Info:

The first 15 cars can park FREE at George B. Swift Elementary School, just two blocks west of Colvin House (as space allows). Please come to Colvin House's back door (off Thorndale Ave) first to receive a parking permit from staff who will provide further instructions.

We also recommend The Malibu Condominiums (6007 N Sheridan) public garage, just across the street, north of Colvin House. This parking can be validated by Colvin House for $2.00 off.

Those valet rates are as follows:

· 2 Hours: $10

· 3 Hours: $11

· 4 Hours: $13

We recommend arriving early if you need to park.
