In collaboration with Biblioteca Popular at Chicago Art Department, we're bringing you a poetry workshop!
“[In] some ways, all poems are conversations with the world, but ekphrastic poems specifically focus on artwork.” - Victoria Chang
Ekphrasis is a correspondence between the self, the art, and the artist. In this ekphrastic workshop, emerging writers are invited to witness the relationship between poetry and visual art. We will take time to engage with an ekphrastic poem by Rochelle Hurt and with an artwork in Arturo Fresan’s Tzompantli exhibition. Through Fresan’s artwork, we will find new poetic inspiration. Participants will play a game of association, gain new vocabulary to discuss art and poetry, and generate writing based on contemporary art.
