The wonderful Pong Yaeng Trail event (pyt.run) is just around the corner, so we're heading to Pong Yaeng district for a recce of this year's PNK20 route. This is the shortest race distance available and overlaps to varying extents with the routes of all longer distance races. It's also much more runnable than the steep trails up Suthep and Pui Mountains and there are some nice views along the way.
We're meeting at the beautiful Ai Nara cafe at 06:30am for an early start. Here's the location pin:

If you wish to meet elsewhere or nearer town and arrange lifts, we can discuss all that in the event discussion below.
**********
The planned route is about 18km with around 1000m of cumulative elevation gain spread out across that distance. It's mostly trail and dirt road, but there are a few sections of concrete road, particularly at the beginning and end. We expect it to take around 2.5 hours to complete.

We recommend saving the route to your sports watch and/or phone prior to the event. We also recommend using suncream and mosquito repellent and carrying at least 1 litre of water with you, along with drink mix, gels or whatever you normally use to fuel and hydrate yourself on longer runs (water, carbs and electrolytes). There are no shops along the way - only at the beginning and end.
Anyone is welcome to join, but the distance and elevation gain mean it's probably not suitable for beginners and a certain level of running experience is required. We also have no idea what the current conditions underfoot are like, as that's highly dependent on the weather.
All that said, this is a social run, not a competition, and the pace will be easy. We'll stop frequently to keep everyone together, for refuelling and to enjoy the surroundings.
Finally, this event is completely free and informal, as always, which means you are responsible for yourself. If you want to support this initiative, consider one of the following:
