Join us on Saturday, January 10, 2026 for a full day of programming with award-winning guitarist Jim Hurst, presented in partnership with the Cheyenne Guitar Society. This combined event includes an afternoon educational workshop followed by an evening concert, both held in person.
From 2:00–3:30 pm, The History of Bluegrass Guitar: From Rhythm to Lead will explore the development of the guitar within Bluegrass music. Jim Hurst will discuss historical context, influential musicians, and stylistic changes that helped move the guitar from a rhythm instrument to a lead voice in the genre. The workshop will include musical examples and discussion of flatpicking techniques and rhythm foundations. This program is appropriate for guitarists, Bluegrass fans, and anyone interested in American music history.
From 5:00–7:00 pm, Jim Hurst will perform a live concert featuring a mix of bluegrass, Americana, folk, and gospel music. A Pinecastle recording artist and multiple-time International Bluegrass Music Association Guitar Player of the Year, Hurst is known for his technical skill, vocals, and storytelling. The concert will include both original material and traditional selections.
Attendees may choose to attend one or both sessions. Both events take place on the same day and are offered in partnership with the Cheyenne Guitar Society.
