Monitoring Grasslands in East Africa from Space

The talk will outline recent work to develop machine learning algorithms which can monitor high resolution satellite imagery to make predictions about the encroachment into conservation areas of infrastructure and agricultural activities.

This collaborative project was developed with colleagues from France, Austria, Kenya and Tanzania and has produced a digital platform capable of hosting a wealth of environmental data such as satellite imagery, demographic data, wildlife and historical animal disease outbreaks in order to make predictions about the likely condition of the environment in the future.
