Teatro Chelsea announces our production of Alba, a new play by Alejandro Rodriguez.

Performances run from Thursday, April 17 to Sunday, May 4, 2025.

Selected 2023 A-Típico finalist and 2024 O'Neill NPC finalist, it is a fresh, funny and poignant interpretation of Lorca's House of Bernarda Alba set in Miami.

Alba was one of three plays selected out of 60 submissions for Teatro Chelsea’s A-Típico New Play festival in 2023, and subsequently chosen for further development and a full production at Teatro.

Alejandro Rodriguez an award-winning Cuban playwright based in Miami, has weaved together the threads of family, humor, exile and memories into a beautiful exploration of how we come to understand our place in the world.

Elliot Norton award-winning director Mariela Lopez Ponce, Co-Artistic director of Teatro Chelsea, leads a cast featuring Elisa Guzman Hosta (Alba), Luz Lopez (Amelia), Ricardo "Ricky" Holguin* (Poet), Inés De La Cruz* (Josefina), Paola Ferrer (Yolanda), Amber Nicole Rodriguez (Adela), Jessibel Falcon (Angie), and Carmen Serrato (Gladys.)

Alba features scenic design by Kristin Loeffler, lighting design by Lauren Stetson, costume design by Parker Jennings and Mariela Lopez Ponce, sound design by Armando Rivera.
