The Stereotypes formed in 1979 in Ilford, Essex. They released one EP, ‘Countdown’, played one gig, had a row and split up.
Fast forward to 2015 and Ash is tracked down by Dizzy from Detour Records who tells him that ‘Countdown’ is now the rarest punk single of the era. It’s changing hands for £1,500 and interest in the band is growing.
After press stories in Record Collector and numerous rags, Ash is duly tasked with tracking the original members down. Which he does because he’s annoying like that.
In March 2021, 42 years after their debut single, The Stereotypes released their debut album, ‘ForWard'. It features new songs and revamped versions of the originals.
They’ve had radio play in the UK, Austria, Belgium, France and the USA and have been interviewed in the UK and the USA many times. July 2021's edition of Record Collector namechecks the band on the front cover and there’s a two page feature on the story of The Stereotypes.
Having recently played a run of shows in London, Peterborough and Winchester, The Stereotypes will be releasing a new single and album in 2026.
