The Four Freshmen

Coming to the Cheboygan Opera House this Saturday, August 23, 7:30pm, the smooth sounds of The Four Freshmen!

Formed in 1948—influenced by jazz groups like The Modernaires and The Mel Tones—this group stood out for their complex harmonies and instrumental skills. They landed a Capitol Records deal and rose to prominence with hits such as “It’s a Blue World” and “Mood Indigo,” becoming icons of collegiate cool in the 1950s.

Their innovative vocal blend left a lasting mark on future artists, notably Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, who credited them as a major influence. Though never winning a Grammy despite six nominations, the group has maintained its signature sound through numerous lineup changes and decades of performances. The legacy of their harmony-driven jazz-pop style continues to resonate with audiences, as the group continues to tour worldwide today.
