Horsemanship Clinic – Afternoon Session
Date/Time: 1pm – 4pm on August 9th, 2025.
Location: D Bar D Ranch in Chase, MI
Cost: $125 total, $65 non-refundable deposit required upon registration which will count toward total fee.
Duration: 3 Hours
Suitable for: Riders of all disciplines looking to improve softness, balance, and connection with their horse.
In this focused horsemanship clinic, we’ll explore what it truly means to have a soft and connected horse, starting from the ground and building into the saddle. True collection isn't just about headset or frame; it's about balance, engagement, and responsiveness that starts from the inside out. We will focus on teaching you how to move each part of your horse’s body individually, how to develop overall collection, and how to develop a better connection through body language.
We’ll work on:
• Developing softness through each individual part of the body
• Understanding the mental and physical aspects of collection
• Using groundwork to build softness and prepare the horse for riding
• Transitioning that feel to the saddle with exercises that promote lightness and engagement
• Teaching riders to use their seat, legs, and hands to support balance
We will also discuss the basics of pivots, good stops, and backing, as these all depend on softness and collection.
This clinic is perfect for anyone wanting to improve their horse's responsiveness, develop better feel, and strengthen the partnership through clear, consistent communication.
About Alaina: Alaina, owner of ARC Performance Horses, has a bachelor’s degree in equine studies, is journeyman certified under Ken McNabb, and has years of experience in the equine industry. Her training focuses on meeting the horse and rider where they are and building a foundation based on what the rider wishes to achieve. Her time earning her degree and certification were heavily focused on developing a soft, collected, and willing equine partner, and she relays this in her training.
