Join us for an artist talk with the Epekwitk Quill Sisters: Cheryl Simon, Melissa Peter-Paul, and Kay Sark.
For the past six years, this group of skilled Mi’kmaq women from Epekwitk have worked together to revitalize the traditional artform of porcupine quillwork. The artist talk will explore their collaborative process, their unique approaches to quillwork, and their recent exhibition at the Hilda Woolnough Gallery, 𝘌𝘭𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘬𝘢’𝘵𝘪𝘬𝘯𝘦’𝘭. The discussion will be followed by a Q&A.
𝘌𝘭𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘬𝘢’𝘵𝘪𝘬𝘯𝘦’𝘭, an exhibition by the Epekwitk Quill Sisters is on view at This Town Is Small at the Hilda Woolnough Gallery until June 28th. 𝘌𝘭𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘬𝘢’𝘵𝘪𝘬𝘯𝘦’𝘭 is a Mi’kmaw word that serves as an invitation for people to see the quills that have been used to create pieces of art. The artists, Melissa Peter-Paul, Kay Bernard and Cheryl Simon, have created a collection of work that is rooted in Mi’kmaw cultural traditions and highlights the beauty of Mi’kmaw porcupine quillwork through their diverse styles.
