ASCE VA Section Civil Soiree 2025

The ASCE Virginia Section cordially invites you to the 2025 edition of the ASCE Virginia Section Civil Soiree. Come join your engineering colleagues and their families from across the Commonwealth for a night of fun and comradery starting at 6pm on Saturday, October 4, 2025. The University of Virginia ASCE Student Chapter is co-hosting the Civil Soiree at the historic UVA Rotunda at 1826 University Ave, Charlottesville, VA 22904. Ticket information can be found below.

In addition to the Civil Soiree, at 2pm on Saturday afternoon, the Virginia Transportation Research Council (VTRC) will be hosting an ASCE Plaque Dedication Ceremony. After nearly 80 years of being the "research arm" of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), VTRC is being recognized as an ASCE Virginia Section Historic Landmark. With this recognition, VTRC will rightly earn a place alongside some of the other most impactful and significant civil engineering landmarks throughout the Commonwealth such as the Fink Deck Truss Bridge in Lynchburg and the Crozet Tunnel in Crozet. On both Friday afternoon and again on Saturday morning, various tours of UVA "Grounds" will be available. Please see below for these tour options.

Lastly, on Friday evening at 6pm, there will be an exclusive cocktail reception at the Historic Montebello. Built in 1819, Montebello is on the National Registry of Historic Places and lies within walking distance from UVA's School of Engineering buildings. Attendance is free for the VTRC Plaque Dedication Ceremony, all tours, and the Montebello Reception. Reservations for these events is required and can be made when purchasing tickets for the Civil Soiree.

Parking is available for all tours and events for a nominal fee at the nearby Central Grounds parking garage. From the parking garage, it's about a 0.25 mile walk to either the Rotunda or the UVA School of Engineering buildings (a 7 to 8 minute walk). On Saturday evening, members of the UVA ASCE Student Chapter will be available to help direct guests from the parking garage to the Rotunda. Civil Soiree Keynote Speaker is ASCE Executive Director ASCE Executive Director Thomas W. Smith, III, CAE, ENV SP, NAC, F.ASCE. Note that Tom Smith has announced his retirement effective December 31st, 2025 so this will be an excellent opportunity to hear him speak as ASCE Executive Director one last time.
