Quilting was introduced to Native American tribes through missionaries, settlers, and boarding schools in the 1800s. Native women adapted European-American quilting methods but infused them with tribal symbolism, colors, and storytelling.

Quilting became a continuation of traditional forms of textile work (like hide painting and weaving) that had spiritual and ceremonial meaning. Most of our grandmothers worked on quilts within our community, which is why we are hoping to help recapture this art through classes on how to make quilting squares.

All classes are free, and participants must sign up to register.
