Anya - lost soul who begins to discover her sense of self and the possibility that she may be the missing daughter of Tsar Nicholas; must move well; vocal range F3-Eb5; 20s
Dimitry - prince of St. Petersburg's black market and an opportunist trying to make it on the Anastasia impersonator; vocal range A2-A4; 20s
Dowager Empress - formidable and imperious grandmother of Anastasia; believes that her favorite grandchild may be alive but after years of enduring impersonators, she becomes bitter and hardened; vocal range F3-Bb4; 60s-70s
Gleb - son of the Russian revolution; as a career officer in the Bolshevik secret police, he is a passionate defender of the hard-won gains of the new order; attracted to Anya; vocal range A2-Ab4; 30s-40s
Vlad - before the revolution, he was a minor functionary at the imperial court; Dimitry's "right-hand-man" and has a romantic relationship with Lily; arranges the meeting between Anya and the Dowager Empress; serves as comic relief and must move well; vocal range A2-A4; mid-40s
Lily - confidante and lady-in-waiting to the Dowager Empress; compassionate, respectful and good at her job; worldly when she's not with the Dowager; serves as a comic relief character and must move well; vocal range Eb3-A4; 40s
Young Anastasia - daughter of the Tsar of Russia and is a sweet and impressionable young princess; shows up throughout the show in "ghost" form and must move well; vocal range A3-Bb4; 8-12 years old
Tsar Nicholas - loving father; elegant and tries to keep the peace between his mother, the Dowager Empress, and the Tsarina; vocal range G2-D4; adult age
Tsarina Alexandra - stern and very devout mother; paranoid about the collapsing regime and grief-stricken about the health of her son, the Tsarevich; uncomfortable around her mother-in-law; vocal range G3-D5; adult age
Count Leopold - one of the presumptive Romanov heirs; a snob and a bit of a fop; adult age
Count Ipolitov - dignified White Russian intellectual and is grief-stricken about leaving his homeland
Young Alexei - Anastasia's younger brother (stage age is 8-12 years old)
Olga/Tatiana/Mariya - Anastasia's three teen sisters
Ballet Dancers - 3 featured ballet dancers; can double as ensemble members
Ensemble - 6 men and 6 women to be featured ensemble singers and dancers, plus 5-8 additional singers and 3-4 children; the ensemble is very busy in the show and plays a vast array of characters
The show will be presented at the Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences in the WV's Maier Performance Hall on October 31, November 1-2 & 7-9, 2025.
