Please prepare 32 bars or 45 seconds of a Broadway showtune or 1960’s style song. Please bring sheet music; an accompanist will be provided. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for the dance audition.
The meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn stumbles across a new breed of plant he names "Audrey II" - after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises unending fame and fortune to the down and out Krelborn as long as he keeps feeding it BLOOD. Over time, though, Seymour discovers Audrey II's out of this world origins and intent towards global domination!
Roles
Seymour Krelborn (Male 25-35 – Tenor/Baritone) Shy, meek, a bit clumsy, unsure of himself but ends up the hero in the end.
Audrey (Female 25-35 - Mezzo-Soprano) Kind-hearted, a dreamer. She is stylish and attractive and uses her beauty more as a means of survival. She has a warped sense of self-worth.
Mr. Mushnik (Male 45-65 - Baritone) A struggling flower shop owner with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. Nosy, father figure to Seymour.
Orin Scrivello (Male 30-40 - Baritone/Bari-tenor) Audrey’s Dentist boyfriend. He is arrogant, self-satisfied, and abusive. He derives pleasure in causing things pain and abusing nitrous oxide.
Audrey II (Male or Female, 20-50 – Alto/Bass) the soulful and sinister voice of the plant, an actor/vocalist located offstage.
Crystal, Ronnette, and Chiffon (18-30 - Mezzo Soprano/Alto) aka The Street Urchins, 3 Black Females, street-styled girl group with infectious energy and confidence. Strong harmony singers and dancers.
The Plant (Male or Female, 18+) a non-speaking puppeteer (experience not required).
A small ensemble (all genders, 18+) who play smaller roles throughout the show.
