Stories with talking animals often have a crisis point where normal social relations disguise a more deadly relationship between predator and prey: just ask Little Red Riding Hood. But there is an alternate scenario where animals cooperate to outwit the hunter. What do stories of predation and mutualism tell us about how we see the world, and why are they important today?
