This is a 2-day Citizen Science Programme for local residents of Chalvey Ditches and Salt Hill Stream.
As part of the next phase of the Salt Hill Stream restoration in Godolphin and Baylis Park we are exciting to be bringing this course to you.
Whether you attended day 1 (in September) or not, you are welcome to join in and join us in sampling and research of your local streams.
This is your chance to get hands-on with nature, learn new skills, and contribute to real environmental research through the SmartRivers project.
Over two days, you’ll work alongside local volunteers and environmental experts to:
🔍 Monitor freshwater invertebrates
Learn how to identify key species that act as early indicators of stream health. These tiny creatures tell us a lot about water quality and ecosystem changes.
💧 Track water quality
Help us test for pollutants and monitor how clean and healthy Salt Hill Stream is as restoration progresses.
🌱 Measure soil moisture
Discover how wetland creation and tree planting are helping the park become more resilient to flooding in winter and drought in summer.
📍 We’ll be sampling the stream at five key sites across the park to build a detailed picture of how nature is responding to the improvements.
This is more than just data collection—it’s about building a stronger connection between people and place. Your involvement will help:
Anyone in the local community! No prior experience is needed - just curiosity and a willingness to get involved. We’ll provide all the training and equipment.
Whether you're a student, nature lover, or just want to give back to your community, this is a great opportunity to make a real impact.
Spaces are limited, so register your interest early!
