Become a RiverRanger in a day, by learning the key skills needed to help us monitor and protect the health of our rivers.
This FREE 1 day training course will cover robust data gathering, its role in conservation efforts, and inform decision-making to improve river management in your local area.
We aim to equip you with the skills and tools required to help the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust (WWT) monitor and protect health of our rivers.
RiverRangers play a key role in WWT's mission to create a network of SmartRivers. Become a RiverRanger and learn how to test the quality of our water by monitoring key parameters such as pH, turbidity, nutrient levels, and pollutants in local rivers. Using simple yet effective testing kits, RiverRangers can collect and report data that will help with early-stage pollution warning and contribute to water health in the area.
Citizen's Science River Monitoring & Research Training Day is part of Project SPONGE, which is funded by the Department of Envornment, Food & Rural Affairs.

SmartRivers
At WWT we are working to create a network of SmartRivers by assessing aquatic invertebrates, collecting high-quality, scientifically robust data that supports conservation efforts and informs decision-making to improve river management in the local area.
About Project SPONGE
With changes in our climate and environment, the risk of flooding has increased.
Project SPONGE uses natural techniques to absorb and control water, reintroducing nature into our surroundings to help make our community more resilient to future floods.
We've brought together communities, conservation charities, and flood specialists to address specific concerns and work as a team to tackle these issues.
Visit for more information about the project and to get involved.
