Guest Speaker: Joey Lax-Salinas

Joey Lax-Salinas, author and photographer, chronicles his years-long journey documenting Indiana’s disappearing “ghost signs” in his forthcoming book, Fading Ads of Indiana. Traveling back roads, small towns, and historic downtowns across the state, Lax-Salinas captures 180 surviving hand-painted advertisements — weathered remnants of a bygone commercial era. From tobacco brands and Gold Medal Flour to iconic names like Coca-Cola, these fading walls tell stories of local businesses, regional industry, and everyday life in Indiana’s past. Through striking photography and thoughtful narrative, Fading Ads of Indiana preserves these overlooked artifacts before time and redevelopment erase them forever. Signed copies will be available for $30. Cash is preferred, but Venmo or Paypal will also be accepted. There are 192 pages, 180 photos in this 6x9 paperback.
