🎒 Ashdown Gorge Hike – This Sunday – Adventure Level: Awesome
This Sunday, we're hitting Ashdown Gorge the VIP way—through the private road (yep, I’ve got permission and the gate code, so we’re legit). This shortcut gets us deep into the canyon where the good stuff is—cutting the normal hiking miles in half and skipping all the boring parts. You're welcome.
The water level back there is lower than usual because we’ll be starting above the two creeks that feed the waterfalls. That said, you’ll still be hiking through water about a foot or two deep, so prepare for some wet action below the knees.
I think this hike beats the Subway or the Narrows any day—and it's a lot easier too. It’s rated moderate, so expect 5–6 miles of hiking, wading, and at least one “are we there yet?” moment (answer: no, but it's worth it).
Gear Tip: I wear water socks with boots that keep my feet drier and happier for longer. Don’t bring anything that needs to stay dry unless you're into squishing. Also, bring a dry pair of shoes and socks for the ride home and the restaurant—unless you're aiming for that “swamp-foot chic” look over dinner. This will be the last chance to do this hike for the year, so hope you can make it!
Meet-Up Info:
Time: 8:30am AM
Place: Smith's parking lot in Cedar City (park by the gas pumps)
Coming from St. George? Leave by 7:30 AM. Coffee encouraged. Seat dancing optional.
We’ll carpool from there. A high-clearance SUV or Jeep-type vehicle is required for the private road—if your car cries over speed bumps, it’s not invited.
After the hike, we’re hitting Puerto Vallarta Jalisco in Cedar for some victory tacos and probably a margarita or two (earned).
See you Sunday! Bring your sense of adventure, some dry socks, and your best trail humor.
