About the event

Intro to Whitewater Kayaking Beginner Skills Course
Have you been inspired by Jess and Naoemi Fox and want to give whitewater paddling a go?

Yes when we say KAYAK we mean those little boats you might see people in and wonder – where did they put there legs?

We will teach you all the basics to be able to manoeuvre your kayak downstream, how to hop out safely if it flips upside down. A great way to learn a new skill in a wilderness setting and meet some lovely people along the way

This course will run you through the skills and knowledge to personally paddle a Kayak or Canoe on Grade 2 Whitewater. This is a great course to get the basic skills so you can dip your toes into the sport, and open up opportunities for future river exploration in the region – particularly on the longest Whitewater canoe and kayak trail in Australia – which includes the river system where we will host this course.

If you are a canoe-er, packrafter, sit on top paddler and are interested in doing the course, many skills will cross-over so please reach out to see how we can best accommodate you

Designed for those paddlers that seek to ensure that they have the knowledge and skills to safely and competently undertake a journey (post-course) without Guide or instructor supervision. Or have the basic skills to join others and feel comfortable they could look after themselves. This course is often a safety pre-requisite for Adventure races that include whitewater components. A Paddle Australia certificate can be issued if needed.

Equipment: Included in the course is hire of a kayak including a spraydeck, paddle, lifejacket, helmet and dry bag. You can bring your own if you have one/ would prefer. Please let us know if you are taller or larger than average as we will need to bring a different kayak for your size. Our main fleet is multi-fit and able to support most sizes under 6 ft and less than 100kg comfortably.

Pre requisites: A sense of adventure, ability to walk on uneven surfaces and sit for 4-6hours each day in a kayak. Some upper body and core strength is helpful.

As we operate on wild free-flowing rivers sensitive to localised rain the course location will be confirmed within a fortnight of the course commencing, once we have accessed conditions to ensure your safety.

Byo food, paddling and camping gear – depending on what the rivers are doing and where we host the course, accommodation may be available nearby at the Clarence river wilderness lodge, the Nymboida Camping & Canoeing Centre or the Gorge station.

Investment - $695.00
