If you've ever wondered about that private driveway to the "Holy Cross Novitiate" just before Cascade as you drive up the pass, this is a rare chance to check it out. What is now the Holy Cross Novitiate was originally a grand family estate called Marigreen Pines that was built by Thomas Cusack, the "billboard king of Chicago." The Cusack family eventually donated Marigreen Pines, including an opulent mansion, to the Congregation of Holy Cross, but with the condition that the historical estate be made available for tours once every three years. This summer, the Ute Pass Historical Society will be conducting these tours on two days only: the weekend of July 19-20. There are a limited number of tickets available for each tour and they won't be available again until 2028, so act now to get yours!

You can purchase tickets at the UPHS website: https://www.utepasshs.org/event-list. If you prefer to pay by cash or check, reserve your tickets on the website and then mail us a check or drop your payment off at our gift shop (located right behind the Woodland Park library); we are open Wednesday-Saturday 11am-3PM.

Regular tickets sell for $35, but patrons of UPHS can purchase them for $30 (you can become a patron at the website: https://www.utepasshs.org/donate).

The tour experience will last about 2 hours 45 minutes. Because parking at the novitiate is limited, your tour experience will begin at Joyland Church in Green Mountain Falls. After checking in, you will watch a short video about the history of Marigreen Pines and then board a bus to the novitiate. Docents from UPHS will provide additional information during the bus ride and then you will be able to tour the estate (and possibly ask questions of the novices of the Congregation of Holy Cross) before boarding a bus back to Joyland Church.
