Medieval Sewing Workshop

Learn how medieval clothing was made using simple shapes like squares, triangles, and rectangles—designed to waste little fabric while creating comfortable garments.

In this hands-on workshop you’ll practice six late-medieval hand stitches and create a stitch sampler to take home. We’ll also use modern sewing machines for main seams and finish by hand to achieve an authentic medieval look.

Needles, thread, and sewing machines are provided. For a $5 materials fee, participants can receive fabric to make a stitch sampler and practice adding a gore and gusset. You’re also welcome to bring your own natural-fiber fabric (cotton, linen, or wool).
