Point Lobos State Park, established in 1933, has long been treasured for its breathtaking coastal beauty and ecological significance. Once home to the Ohlone people, it later became a hub for whaling, abalone fishing, and granite quarrying. Today, it preserves stunning landscapes and marine habitats, celebrated as a natural and cultural landmark. It is one of the oldest Marine Protected Areas in the country having been protected since 1963.
Point Lobos is a diver’s paradise, offering stunning underwater landscapes just beneath the surface. Known as the “crown jewel” of California’s State Park system, its pristine waters feature dramatic kelp forests, rocky reefs, and diverse marine life. Divers can encounter schools of rockfish, larger than normal lingcod and sheepshead, playful sea lions, harbor seals and otters. Visibility can reach from 30 feet to 100 feet, providing breathtaking views of the vibrant underwater ecosystem. The protected Whalers Cove is a popular entry site, perfect for exploring this unique marine reserve. With its natural beauty and rich biodiversity, Point Lobos promises an unforgettable diving experience.
Reservations are limited to ten 2 person dive teams every day and usually sell out far in advance. To guarantee a spot, reserve your 2 person dive team on February 1st when the March reservations open. Cost is $30 per dive team. Reserve a spot here. You need to register yourself and your buddy at the same time but you can change your buddy later on if plans change. You will need the name, address, phone number, email, emergency contact info, vehicle license plate and diver certification number for you and your buddy. If you need a buddy, reach out to the TVDC for help in finding one.
A dive briefing will be provided before the dive for people new to the site. If you would like a PADI Professional Dive Guide, contact the shop to book one. If you'll be there, RSVP by calling Dive N Trips at 925-462-7234, or emailing
