Twisted by Design is the longest running indie club night in Cardiff having recently celebrated its 25th anniversary a few months ago
However, 25 years seems a good time to bow out of the indie scene, and so there will be one last live Twisted by Design on bank holiday weekend, Sunday 24th August downstairs at Clwb Ifor Bach.
Doors at 10pm and you’ll want to get there early so you don’t miss any of the excitement planned for the night.
Twisted is well known as being the most request friendly night. It ran for 17 years upstairs at the iconic Irish Bar Dempseys. Plus has had nights in pretty much every building along Womanby Street over the years including the City Arms, Tiny Rebel and Clwb Ifor Bach, along with long gone venues such as the Model Inn, the Moon and Full Moon, the Blue Moon, Toucan, CF1, Fire Island and the Horse and Groom.
In 2008, Twisted released a 22 band compilation highlighting Cardiff bands including The Loves, Sweet Baboo, Threatmantics, The Wave Pictures and Los Campesinos!
Los Campesinos! wrote a hit single “You! Me! Dancing!” all about Twisted by Design.
Twisted also played several festivals such as Indietracks and headlined the Sunday DJ tent at Green Man in 2007
Twisted had a joint stage at the very first Swn festival and its own stage at the second.
It’s been involved in many live gigs including Jeffrey Lewis, Thomas Truax, Los Campesinos!, ballboy, Kimya Dawson, Allo Darlin’, Art Brut and The Wave Pictures.
In 2005, Twisted was voted second in 6 music’s greatest Indie disco of all time and won the best Club Night award at the Cardiff Music awards in 2017.
During lockdown Twisted hosted a number of online nights and gained a lot of praise for its interactive visuals, which have now been incorporated into the live nights
