Hosted by experienced journalist and broadcaster, Siân Lloyd, Daring to Dream’s ‘Making Space to talk about Emotional Health and Living with Illness’ event focuses on the critical role of emotional health in supporting individuals and those close to them to live well with illness.

Our event is a conversation about helping us live well with illness – by making emotional health part of the treatment. We will highlight some of our #spacestotalk that have been created or are in the process of being planned.

Few charities talk about emotional health as a standalone, necessary part of living with illness. This is although the lives of 1.2 million adults in Wales are changed because they live with physical illness. Illness that also impacts on the lives of their carers, families, clinicians, and friends.

Our event features contributions from Sarah Murphy MS, Welsh Government Minister for Mental Health, and Wellbeing. Sophie Howe, the First Future Generations Commissioner in Wales and globally (our patron) as well as a number of people from diverse backgrounds living with illness, in clinical practice and carers.

Daring to Dream supports the emotional health and wellbeing of the 1.2 million adults in Wales living with physical illness.

Our emotional response to illness is a natural human reaction and does not indicate a mental health problem.

Therefore, Daring to Dream is not a mental health charity, but an emotional health one.

It strives to enable those living with illness to:

- Are supported in leading fulfilling lives through both emotional and clinical care,

- Experience a reduced risk of developing mental health issues related to physical illness.

Good emotional health empowers people to live their best lives with illness, not just survive it.

By nurturing strong emotional health, individuals are not only empowered to manage their illnesses but also to significantly enhance their quality of life.
