SIU Concert Choir performes music by: Pentatonix, Bob Dylan,
Amy Beach, Undine Smith Moore, Anna Lapwood, Heinrich Schütz, Arvo Pärt!
Classics Reimagined:
This first concert with the SIU Concert Choir is built around a theme chosen by Dr. Morehouse: Classics. But rather than taking “classics” to mean only “classical,” we’ve turned the idea on its head. For us, a classic is any piece of music that has endured—beloved, sung, and shared across time.
The program spans centuries, from the elegance of the early Baroque to the songwriting genius of Bob Dylan. You’ll hear SIU student Abigail Bolgrien in a moving solo performance of Dylan’s Make You Feel My Love—in a luminous arrangement by organist-composer Anna Lapwood—featuring Riley Porreca soaring above with radiant descants. We are also thrilled to be joined by Anita Hill on the magnificent Marianne Webb pipe organ in Shryock Auditorium.
Great music isn’t confined by genre, and “classics” aren’t limited to what we call “classical.” This concert celebrates the universality of song—music that challenges us, inspires us, and ultimately brings us joy.
Join us on October 1 at 7:00 p.m. in Shryock Auditorium for an evening that proves: singing is for everyone.
