More on Ben (and Band):
Following their debut EP Rise (2017) and the single Matter of Time (featured on Rocktober: The Best South African Indie Hits of All Time), Ben began a solo chapter, releasing two folk singles through Gallo Record Company in 2020. His 2021 album In Flow, inspired by the rhythms and folklore of Limpopo’s Bushveld, blends reggae, folk, and indie, shaped in collaboration with local producers Zac, Xaxi, and Mathlatsi.
Ben’s musical roots trace back to age five, when he began busking on violin at village markets, often accompanied by his howling dog Nu Nu, before turning to guitar and songwriting in his teens. Signed to Sony Music Publishing Africa in 2016 and Gallo Record Company in 2020, he became an independent artist in 2024, moving to Greyton to explore raw, folk-leaning sounds. Singles Cait and Still You reflect his deepening connection to environment, community, and shared human stories.
Influenced by African storytelling traditions, Ben’s lyrics invite listeners into a shared experience, often weaving personal reflection with broader narratives of belonging and nature. An avid ecologist and trail runner, he channels his relationship with the land into music that encourages a deeper connection to the world around us.
Whether fronting The Concrete Lions or performing solo, Ben is at his best live. His shows are electric, immersive, and emotionally charged, leaving audiences both energised and deeply moved.
