Biochar for Homestead and Farm + Potluck

Join us at The Ruby Ranch in Candler for this infomative and hands-on workshop and opportunity to connect with fellow homesteaders and farmers. Local biochar expert Alex Gray will lead the making of a big batch of biochar and give a talk on the ins and outs of what biochar is all about. Learn about the benefits of using biochar in your soil, how to make your own biochar, and its impact on crops, soil health, and ecology. See below for more info about biochar.

Workshop Schedule:

• 2:30 - Gather and greet
• 2:45 - Set up kiln and initiate biochar batch
• 3:30 - biochar talk from Alex and Q+A while the biochar cooks. Also potential for tour and helping with farm projects at Ruby Ranch
• 6:00 - potluck dinner
• 6:30 - quench the fire (please plan to stay til the end, this last part is important!)

What to bring:

• a potluck dish
• your own dining ware
• Items to be comfortable for an outdoor workshop: a camp chair, gloves, hat, water (basic amenities like bathroom and water are available on site)
