Join us for a weekend of sporty, vertical caving at Bungonia as we tackle the two big vertical caves in the area. Expect fun and challenging squeezes, climbs, crawls, and scrambles. There’s not much formation, but it’s a great place to build skills and push your limits.
Open to NUCC or ASF club members. Intermediate SRT skills required – abseiling, prusiking, and crossing rebelays.
MEETING TIME
- Meet: 8am Saturday at ANU Sport
- Return: Early Sunday evening
- Saturday: Drum Cave (with extension)
- Sunday: Argyle
- Camping overnight at Bungonia campground
TRIP FEES
$30($20 fuel + $10 for NUCC kit if needed)
CAMPGROUND
Bungonia campground features hot showers (bring a towel), flush toilets, filtered drinking water on tap, and an indoor kitchen with heating and cooking facilities.
WHAT TO BRING
- Backpack/daypack
- Water to take into the cave (1L bottle)
- Spare batteries (8 x AA batteries if using NUCC headtorches)
- Camping Gear: Sleeping bag, mat, pillow, tent, and camp chair
- Cooking Equipment (gas stoves are available at the campground kitchen)
- Meals for 2 days – lunch should be portable, compact, and non-crumbly for ease underground.
- Snacks/drinks for the evenings.
- Non-crumbly snacks and water bottle for underground (a stream is available, but not always nearby).
- Personal Caving Kit: Overalls, gloves, kneepads (optional) SRT kit (optional)
- Footwear: Grippy shoes for caving (gumboots or hiking boots) and a spare pair for around camp
- Caving Clothes: Two sets of old clothes for caving, warm layers for wet sections, and extra warm clothes for nighttime/camp
- Weather Gear: A jumper, raincoat, beanie, and warm gloves
