A Latin American Week percussion workshop

Get ready for a dynamic 3-hour journey through Latin American rhythms! 🌟 Led by three incredible percussionists, this hands-on workshop will immerse you in Afro-Latin and Brazilian traditions that are guaranteed to get your hands moving and your heart beating.

Whether you’re a curious beginner or an experienced percussionist, come explore the soul of Latin American music — and join a celebration of culture, creativity, and community as part of Latin American Week at ANU.

🎵 Workshop Flow
Each hour brings a new rhythm, a new instrument, and a new culture:

🔸 Cajon Techniques & Grooves (12pm – 1pm)
with Rodrigo Andrés Martin (RP Percussion)

Learn to groove on the cajon, explore Latin fusion and flamenco-rooted styles, and master tone, technique, and phrasing.

🔸 Cuban Percussion: Congas & Clave (1pm – 2pm)
with Sinuhe Pacheco (Cuban Drumming and Percussion)

Dive into Afro-Cuban music with iconic clave patterns (Son & Rumba) and tumbao – the heartbeat of salsa, mambo, and Latin jazz.

🔸 Brazilian Samba Batucada (2pm – 3pm)
with Rafael Florez (Raio De Sol)

Feel the energy of Carnival as you learn samba rhythms, call-and-response grooves, and play as part of a bateria (samba drumming ensemble).

🎶 The workshop concludes with an open jam session where you’ll experiment, collaborate, and bring everything together in a lively group performance.
