About the event

Dept of Rock All Stars - Charged Division

You saw them rip it up in 2024 Dept of Rock's Battle of the Bands - come back and see our bands do it again in the Dept of Rock's All Stars shows at Smith's in May, June and July 2025. Sunday afternoons have never been so much fun!

All Stars gigs give bands that entered last year’s comp, the chance to play again and for longer, without competition pressure but still within the fun and friendly Dept of Rock community. So dust off those dancing shoes and get down to Smith’s and join in the fun as our public servant rockstars let loose again.

Drop in for one band ($10) or see a couple bands or better still stay for the whole show ($20). Tickets online at Smith's website or at the door.

Dept of Rock All Stars – Charged Division: 27 July 2025, 3 to 6pm

Need a little pick me up? Come on down to Smith’s and get re-charged with these four fantastic bands as they party the afternoon away at Dept of Rock.

Beer Garden Gnomes
The Beer Garden Gnomes first spawned in Melbourne then rebirthed in Canberra when Jonty found like-minded gnomes who liked to rock n roll all night and public service every day. Our favourite magical creatures of Dept of Rock are back to have another beer and rock out – get your dancing shoes.

Red Hector
Red Hector is a musically tight and energetic covers band that put on a high energy set in the Dept of Rock band comp last year. The Red Hector blokes have been playing music since the 80s and 90s and the band is well known for engaging, fun and highly charged sets. In keeping with old school style, you will not see an ipad on any Red Hector stage – because as Dave says, “we didn’t do it in the 80’s, why should we slack off now”. Respect.

Exit Strategy
Exit Strategy formed to take part in the Dept of Rock 2024. They are a good-time, thumping rock 'n roll band featuring 4 seasoned musos who love playing live and giving audiences a great time. Oh and they also love procurement (yes they’ve got lots and lots of guitars). Exit Strategy are entertainment guaranteed, and we’re stoke they are bringing good noise and good times back to Dept of Rock in July.

Black Souls
The Black Souls are an original rock band that play songs from hard-learned experiences. In duo form they gave us one of the most memorable hard-hitting performances of the 2024 competition - Kat rocking out on bass in a moonboot and Steve (with arm in a sling) playing one armed and not missing a beat on the drums! The Black Souls are back for All Stars with their new guitarist - and hopefully injury free - to give us another blistering set of rock music that is larger than life and full of soul.
