Mark Hutton, Vegetable Specialist, University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Assoc. Professor Vegetable Crops at Highmore Farm will discuss strategies for staking, pruning and training tomato plants.
In this talk, we will discuss how to produce tasty, beautiful tomatoes in your home garden. We will discuss starting seeds, growing and planting transplants, ground preparation and use of mulches, pruning and training, common insects and diseases. We will have the opportunity to have a hands-on demonstration of pruning and trellising. If we are unfortunate to have disease or nutritional problems we will work through identifying the problem and how it may be corrected. There will also be a chance to rave about your favorite varieties and warn others off poor varieties.
Mark Hutton is the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Vegetable Specialist. In that role, he assists Maine Farmers to grow high quality vegetables and conducts research in vegetable production management. He also works with home gardeners through the Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Program.
