The Circles + Absolute Beginners are both back!
Emerging from the vibrant music scene of the West Midlands in the late 1970s, The Circles became a cornerstone of the mod revival movement. Blending the sharp style of 1960s mod icons with the raw energy of punk, their music captured the defiance and optimism of a generation. With influential tracks like “Opening Up” and “Angry Voices,” The Circles combined poignant storytelling with driving rhythms, establishing themselves as a voice for those seeking authenticity and connection during uncertain times.
Despite early success, including selling over 30,000 singles, airplay on BBC Radio and a strong fan following, the band folded in 1980. Their legacy, however, endured through reissues, compilation albums, and unwavering fan enthusiasm. Revivals in the 1990s and 2000s, supported by Detour Records, introduced their timeless sound to new audiences. Notable moments included their album Live at Norbreck Castle, their participation in Mods Mayday events, and the release of Looking Back, a compilation that celebrated their enduring influence on the mod scene.
Today, The Circles’ remarkable journey continues, bridging past and present together for an energetic live show. Featuring classics like “Billy” and "Mr Suburbia” alongside new tracks such as “Better Days” and “Our Time” demonstrating the band’s enduring creativity and relevance. From their early days as torchbearers of the mod revival to their modern releases that resonate with contemporary listeners, The Circles continue to inspire and captivate music lovers across generations.
