BIO:
Raj Basak is proof that living two different lives need not be a contradiction when both share a devotion to exploration and beauty. A formally trained scientist and life-sciences professional by day, and musician-composer by night, Raj’s previous work as an artist includes world tours with classical and jazz vocal ensembles, a leading role at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and an independent R&B fusion albums.
His sound draws inspiration from the panache of jazz greats like Cannonball Adderley and Kenny Garrett, the groove of neo-soul innovators like D’Angelo and Lauryn Hill, and the timelessornamentation of Indian Classical icons like Kadri Gopalnath and Vilayat Khan.
Whether bending notes or the rules of genre, Raj’s philosophy is that good music, like good science, thrives on experimentation.
