Companion Voices, singers who gather to learn songs and prepare themselves to sing at the bedside of those at the end of life, is (finally!) coming back to Cambridge. This is an invitation to an initial Companion Voices singing workshop and meeting to explore how Companion Voices works through immersing ourselves in its ethos.
During the evening, we will learn songs from the Companion repertoire, offering the gift of singing to each other, and experience how it is to receive. We will also, in this safe space, explore some of our own feelings and thoughts about death and dying, as acknowledging this core part of 'life' is central to the work. We will cover, too, the practicalities, including costs and commitment, and the ways that the group can take care of each other during this work.
When: 7 - 9pm on Tuesday 8th July
Where: Romsey Mill Community Hall, Hemingford Road, CB1 3BZ.
Who is it for? Anyone potentially interested in this work!
Cost: £15 to begin to cover time, fees and venue hire . Please get in touch if this would be a barrier to you, we'd like to welcome everyone
You are also welcome to join our WhatsApp group here -

Companion Voices singing is simply to accompany and honour the person or people receiving it, to allow them to progress forward knowing they are not alone, to give them a sense that their experience is held and acknowledged by the singers and their voices as they take their leave of life. I know from being sung to, and from my limited bedside singing experience (and perhaps you from yours) how much gentle singing can relax, nourish, and somehow simultaneously both open and hold: the journey is often a precious gift for both receiver and singer. The songs themselves, to meet this, are relatively simple, repetitive and beautiful.
Please message me to let me know if you are able to come.
The Companion Voices is the place to find out more about the concept and whether there's already a group near you !

Hope to sing with you soon.
