FUSION SWORD TECHNIQUES AND TRICKS

This all-levels sword workshop is an introduction to the sword technique and stylizations that Boudica uses in her dark fusion and theatrical performances. Included are grip changes, hand and shoulder balances, spins, binds, and sword flow; as well as an overview of how to move and dance with your sword as an equal partner in your performance.
NOTE: Extra swords will be available for those who don't have their own.
DANCING TO MIDDLE EASTERN DRUM RHYTHMS

This half lecture-half dance practice is open to all levels, including students who have never tried bellydance before. You'll start by learning how to identify a variety of common (and a few uncommon) Middle Eastern drum rhythms, especially those that are popular in both classic and modern bellydance music. Then, you'll get to move around, learning how to interpret these rhythms with your body. We'll practice moves that are often paired with specific rhythms, as well as a few of Megan's favorite combinations. We'll end the class with a bit of freetime so that you can use your newfound skills while experimenting with different bellydance props!
NOTE: Although this workshop is designed for dancers, drummers are also welcome to come learn these rhythms and practice playing them while the other participants dance. We always appreciate live music!
