Val hails from London, Ontario and has been involved in music from the age of seven. A former recording artist on Tommy Banks record label (as a teenager), Val has been a session singer for many radio/TV ads, films, and band recordings - including the rock band Helix. Her two career highlights: leading a Christmas carol sing-along at a mansion in Toronto with Oscar Peterson playing piano; and being a singing Muppeteer on a TV Special with Jim Henson. A singer and player of all styles of music - including country and opera - Val is an accomplished and engaging performer, who has performed at many area festivals and concert venues either as part of a band or as a solo act.
Opening Act at 7:00 pm, Called-by-the-Sea, featuring Doug Baker (guitars, vocals) and Michael Pollock (mandolin, concertina, banjo, vocals).
Whether they’re singing a traditional song from the British Isles or a modern song that sounds like it could be trad, Called by the Sea brings life to their music through energetic vocals and engaging instrumentation. Michael Pollock (mandolin, concertina, banjo, vocals) and Doug Baker (guitars, vocals) are skilled musicians who have been part of the Calgary music scene for many years. The duo combines a varied selection of fine songs with innovative arrangements to bring you toe-tapping entertainment.
For Open Mic, there will be two sessions of three to four performances, two songs each (10 min max), running from 7:30 - 8:15 pm and 9:00 - 9:45 pm.

A full sound and lighting system and refreshments are provided.
Goodwill donations are appreciated and cover the cost of the snacks and hall rental, with the balance going to the VCA.
