Faculty of Law, University of Calgary, Calgary, Canada
The Canadian Institute of Resources Law in the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary invites you to the following free, hybrid workshop:
The Water Act and Water Management, Then and Now: a Core Rewrite of Management Rules for a Precious Resource
The workshop will provide an overview of the provincial government approach to water rights and management in Alberta since the late 1800’s to the Water Act of 1999. It will then explore 2025 amendments that without fanfare rewrite core elements of that approach that favor of more intense consumptive uses. The workshop will explore potential impacts of the revised approach on the aquatic environment.
A question and answer period will follow the coffee break.
Arlene Kwasniak, Professor Emerita of Law and Senior CIRL Research Fellow.
