Regina based Jack Semple stops in Calgary on tour October 16 to light up the stage at the Grand Theatre. One of the nation's finest guitarists, Semple is often described as a "force of nature," and his music described as "Stevie Ray Vaughn meets James Brown meets Robben Ford."
Relocating to Toronto in the late 1980s to become the lead guitarist of The Lincolns, Jack spent two years before stepping out to pursue a solo career, returning to Saskatchewan. He contributed to television and music scores and appeared in the title role of Guitarman, a 1994 television movie. In 1992, Semple came to national prominence, winning the MuchMusic "Guitar Wars" contest. Semple has been twice nominated for a Gemini Award for his soundtrack work on the television series Incredible Story Studio.
Semple's solo career has resulted in the release of ten albums. He captured a Juno award in 1991 for best roots recording, and won the Western Canadian Music Awards for "Qu'Appelle" and "In the Blue Light”.
