Each half-day of this symposium is designed to introduce both students and faculty to the Resilience Scale - a powerful, evidence-informed tool grounded in brain science that helps individuals and organizations understand how adversity, support, and skill-building interact to shape lifelong health and well-being.

Developed by the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative as part of the Brain Story, the Resilience Scale is used in a variety of professional sectors—including health, education, and social services—to guide trauma-informed practices and support system-wide change.

This session offers a hands-on learning experience where students will:

  • Receive an 85-minute training in the science and structure of the Resilience Scale -Participants will receive a certificate upon completion
  • Engage in guided practice using the Resilience Scale Toolkit
  • Apply theoretical concepts to real-world case examples
  • Explore the practical applications of resilience science across disciplines

We believe this learning opportunity will meaningfully enrich classroom conversations and offer students concrete skills they can carry into practice settings.
