Hello fellow Adventure Racers! The Pocket Gopher Challenges 6/12/48 are open for registration and pricing increase at midnight 17 May 2025. I do not like increasing prices but there are logistical challenges that get tougher as race date draws closer.
I wanted to take a moment to discuss with everyone my upcoming 48Hr expedition like PGE adventure race. No fancy pictures this time just my thoughts on why I created the PGE. I created this 48hr race this year for three reasons:
1.I wanted to give teams that are considering moving up to multiday expedition level racing and opportunity to experience what it is like to prepare gear bags, to assemble and disassemble bikes during a race, to plan a sleep schedule, and all the other logistics that go into expedition level racing but do it in a shorter duration that you can experience in a weekend.
2. I wanted to do all this and still keep the cost affordable. I have done everything possible to reduce the cost of the race without reducing the quality of the race. We have free primitive camping at the race HQ, we have full amenity camping at Outback Ranch nearby and have hotels available near the race start. We are also offering free pick up and return at the Rochester MN airport. I am also working constantly with sponsors to get every racer usable fun cool swag
3. I wanted this race to be a USARA Regional Qualifier: When I first met Allen Pujol, an ARWS staff member, in Brazil, he stressed to me how important it was for race directors to support their countries federations, and how that support strengthens the entire community all the way up to ARWS. That is why this race is USARA Regional Qualifier and ARWS North American sponsored race.
In closing Adventure Racing has been a central part of my life since early 2000. My first race, after transitioning out of the military was the E-fix, a 72hr race sponsored by OAR that I did as a soloist on a bike I bought from kmart the day before the race. I completed that race battered and bruised but I knew I had found my new family. 25 years later my podium days are long behind me but my passion for the sport has never changed. As a race director I am and will always be committed to putting together the best possible, most challenging race I can design.
