Calabasas to Cornell Grade and Mulholland Highway
RIDE DESCRIPTION:
This ride has a 26.7 mile option with one climb and a 44 mile option with two climbs. If it's going to be a really hot day, we'll just do the 26.7 mile ride so that we can be done by 11 AM.
The long route has two challenging climbs, both on Mulholland Highway: The Cornell Grade and Leo Carrillo State Beach to Westlake Blvd. We head west on Mulholland Highway past the Rock Store to the split with Encinal Canyon. We then take Encinal Canyon to Lechusa which enables us to cut over to Decker Canyon Road. There's a water stop at Fire Station 72, then we descend Decker to the Pacific Coast. We continue north on Pacific Coast Highway to Leo Carrillo State Beach Campground for a rest stop. What follows is a 2000 foot climb over 10 miles on Mulholland Highway to Westlake Blvd. We descend Westlake Blvd -- which is very steep at times -- to Agoura Road. We take a rest stop at Starbucks and then return to our starting location.
The short route goes up the Cornell grade, but continues on Mulholland Highway to Westlake Blvd and then goes down to Agoura Hills. There is a water stop at the llama ranch on Mulholland Highway just before arriving at Westlake Blvd. The one climb begins at mile 7.0 and continues to mile 12.6. The rest of the route is mostly downhill or a small rollers.
