Portrait Painting Workshop in Oil – with Alaa Abdelrahman.
Foundations and Techniques this workshop is designed for anyone interested in learning how to draw and paint the human face using oil
paints. Over the course of eight sessions, we will cover the essential elements of portrait painting—from
initial structure to the final layers.
Workshop Topics:
• Basic facial proportions & anatomy
• Drawing facial features (eyes, nose, mouth, ears)
• Principles of light, shadow, & shading
• Introduction to color theory: color wheel, harmony, warm vs. cool tones
• Mixing realistic skin tones in oil
• Layering techniques (glazing and blending)
• Background and lighting considerations
• Building a portrait from sketch to a finished painting
By the end of the workshop, each participant will complete a full oil portrait painting.
Date: Sundays and Wednesdays
Starts on July 13 2025.
Time: from 6 - 9PM
Duration: 8 sessions
Fee: LE 4000.
Materials: Participants are required to bring their own supplies:
Materials List:
• Oil paint set (recommended: Pebeo XL or Art Creation)
• Oil painting brushes (at least 3 different sizes)
• Canvas (minimum size: 30x40 cm)
• Palette and palette knife
• Odorless thinner or oil medium (e.g., linseed oil)
• Charcoal (natural vine charcoal preferred)
• Pencils, eraser, blending tool, and a clean cloth
