Mobility as Daily Life: An Ethnographic Reading of Cairo’s Transport Boom
How can we understand the major surge in transport and road projects in Cairo since 2014? In her lecture, Dr Dalia Wahdan explores commuters’ and transport providers’ everyday experiences, based on ethnographic research from across the capital and its surroundings. She also presents critical readings of key ideas in mobility, such as supply and demand, gender, exclusion, and spatial planning.

About the speaker:
Dr Dalia Wahdan is an urban anthropologist at the American University in Cairo and co-founder of Gladys for Urban Studies, with research and consultancy experience across Egypt, India, and South Africa. Her publications focus on spatial politics and urban mobility, including the co-edited volume We Cross the Road.

الدكتورة داليا وهدان هي باحثة أنثروبولوجيا حضرية في الجامعة الأمريكية في القاهرة، وشريكة مؤسسة لمركز "جلاديس للدراسات الحضرية". تمتلك خبرة واسعة في البحث والاستشارات في كل من مصر والهند وجنوب أفريقيا. تتركز أبحاثها حول سياسات العمران والتنقل الحضري، ومن ضمن أعمالها تحريرها المشترك للكتاب بعنوان «في عرض الطريق».
