Get keen, get keen, for a wonderful morning of birding! The Esplanade is one of our top spots for bird species, with heaps of different shorebirds to see (plus a number of land birds too). Given how successful our other trips have been this semester, I have high hopes for this one! Our primary target for the morning will be one of my favourite birds, the Beach Stone-Curlew. They're just so cool!
We'll meet at the north end of the Esplanade (-16.9049, 145.7629) at 7am - if you need help getting there, we should be able to get a good carpool going. Please make sure you bring a hat, water, and sunscreen because it's likely to be a bright and sunny morning, and some bug spray is also highly recommended. If you've got binoculars, please bring them along!
As always if you're feeling unwell please don't come, and while we are watching birds we will be maintaining 1.5m distancing. And yes, we are affiliated and everything so all JCU students and staff are covered by JCUSA insurance.
Anyway, please do come along if you can! Whether you're a birding extraordinaire or you've never tried something like this before, it will be a great opportunity to get out and meet some like-minded people, and of course a great opportunity to see some of North Queensland's amazing birds/government drones. I hope to see you all there 😃
