United Joy 2025 Women’s Conference

In John 4, we read the story of a Samaritan woman who encountered Jesus at a well. For some of us, this is a familiar story we’ve read or heard many times. But, have you really read it or really heard it? This is a story of a woman who was stuck living in her sin and shame, who was going to the well at a time of day to intentionally avoid others. But, Jesus, in all of His goodness, met her at this well and offered her true living water. Despite her past, despite cultural norms, we see Jesus tell her in verse 14, “But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” But, this isn’t where the story ends! If we keep reading, we see the woman’s response in verse 15 – “Please sir, give me this water!” But, what’s even better is that’s not where her response stopped. If we read further, we see in verse 28 that “the woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone.” And in verses 39-42, we read were many Samaritans believed because of her testimony. This is a story of a woman whose sin was deep, but she accepted the living water Jesus offered, and then lived from the overflow of that living water. Our prayer this year, is that you will encounter Jesus at your well, accept His living water, and then live every day from that overflow.
