Join us at the famous Byron Dragway in Byron, Illinois Sunday May 18th for a casual, informal gathering of Volkswagen enthusiasts! Come out to watch, or send your car down the ¼ mile! This isn’t a competition day at the track. It’s a normally scheduled “Test & Tune” day. Want to see how fast your VW is without actually racing? Now’s your chance!
We’ll have a spot set aside for us by the track officials where we can all park together and show off our rides. The track will be collecting their usual $20 admission for spectators at the gate. No awards will be given out, unless an occasional “your car looks awesome”, or “nicely done”, qualifies. Personally, we think that means more than any trophy or plaque.
For those who want to see how fast their cars can cover the ¼ mile, the track charges $55 for car and driver for the day. Any car expected to run faster than a time of 13.99 seconds, the driver must wear a helmet.
As an added bonus, Seward Speed Shop’s famous Burny the Drag Car will be running down the track with a special engine in the back! It’s the power plant that you've been watching being built on Fun With VDub’s YouTube channel! Come into the pits to see it and give words of encouragement.
If you’re planning to attend, or just interested, please click the button asap. That will help greatly to determine how much space we need to plan for at the racetrack. All updates leading up to the event will be posted here, including cancellation due to bad weather.
You’re also encouraged to use this event page to communicate with other attendees. To set up convoys to the track, borrow a helmet, whatever.
We’ll see you there!
