Join artist Karla Dickens in the gallery for an afternoon of yarning, creating and sharing as a community. Slow down and enjoy the healing power of creativity and being together. Karla will be joined by artist and Githabul/Bundjalung woman Amarina Toby.
Karla Dickens is a nationally recognised artist of Wiradjuri, Irish and German heritage. Dickens uses her multidisciplinary practice to bring dark humour to her unflinching interrogation of subjects such as race, gender and injustice. Through her mastery and utilisation of 'found-objects', overlooked or discarded objects are given new contexts that interrogate Australian culture, contest histories and agitate for change.
Amarina Toby is a Githabul, Bundjalung woman with lineage to Gaangalu, South East Asia and England. She founded the art space Amarina AARI in 2021 in Dumberimba (Lismore). She predominantly works with earth pigments, but is also a yoga teacher, dancer and art facilitator.
